Double delight at awards ceremony

The Connect team and our clients collected two gongs at the 2015 Scottish Magazine Awards, held last night in Edinburgh.

Peter Nicholson, won Business and Professional Magazine Editor of the Year, the third time he has won this category during his 10 years with Connect while the Treehouse, produced for FMC Technologies’ Well Completions Systems business, won Employee or Internal Magazine of the Year. Connect won the same category in 2014, and this latest award is testament to the company’s experience in employee and stakeholder communications.

On Peter’s award, the judges said that it was “clear from the start that his personal contribution is key to the success of the publication and his steer has resulted in an increase in reader satisfaction metrics”. Judges also said that the magazine is talking directly to its target audience” and that there is a “freshness” to the design.

Kevin Lang, Director of External Relations at the Law Society of Scotland, said: “All of us at the Law Society are delighted for Peter, who thoroughly deserved this award. His passion for The Journal and his commitment to providing news and informed comment to those with an interest in the legal sector continues to shine through. The fact the Journal is so well read and so well respected is testament to his continued hard work, enthusiasm and professionalism.”

Judges loved Treehouse’s format which they said was “accessible and professional – a sentiment which is reflected in its success with its target audience”. Judges were particularly impressed with the Treehouse’s panel of communication champions and liked the guest editor approach. The judges continued that “the writing is supportive and warm, generating a positive sense of community for employees and there was an excellent range of content about the employees as as well as the business”.

Connect’s managing director Alan Ramsay said: “We’re delighted for Peter, the Law Society of Scotland and FMC Technologies, and all of our clients and people nominated for awards. It’s great to get recognition like this and it’s a fantastic way to end 2015.”

The company was shortlisted in nine categories in 2015 and this year’s success follows four awards at the same event in 2014.
