Platform for discussion

Teaching Scotland, which Connect publishes on behalf of the General Teaching Council for Scotland, has joint hosted a political hustings. Each of the main political parties standing for election at Holyrood were represented, where issues specifically around education were discussed.

The event, held in Edinburgh, was attended by around 150 teachers and members of the wider education profession. Local and national press were also there.

To allow those who couldn’t attend in person to participate, the event was streamed live on the Teaching Scotland website, and viewers were able to submit questions and comments online to be relayed to the political representatives.

Connect’s Daniel Lambie, who has helped develop and publish the magazine for a number of years, said: “It’s an innovative development for Teaching Scotland, on a number of fronts. We’re working hard to position the magazine at the heart of the education profession in Scotland. Hosting such a high-profile debate really shows what an active and useful part the publication can play in the teaching profession.”
