Taking online conferences to Oscar-winning levels
Connect has completed another hugely successful online conference for the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), this time for the Asbestos industry.
#Asbestos2020 was a two-day event packed with speakers from across the world and attended by more than 130 professionals.
The highlight was the mock asbestos trial, in which BOHS chief executive Kevin Bampton donned his gown and reverted to his barrister role to interrogate four potential criminals. Volunteer actors Adam Binney, Paul Lyons, Tony Reilly and Alan Willoughby sweated in the ‘dock’ as each blamed the other for the failure to spot the asbestos, leading to expensive delays in the fictional building refurbishment.
“The mock trial was great, it lightened the load of information, whilst getting an important message across,” was the feedback from one delegate.
“The court case was really interesting. I was thinking it would be good to do more of these in future events but with different scenarios,” said another.
In total, the conference comprised eight sessions with 26 speakers covering everything from compliance and testing to the science of asbestos particles and case studies.
BOHS Event manager Marie Townshend said: “We are thrilled with the reaction from speakers and delegates to the Asbestos 2020 conference. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive with a strong feeling towards staying with a virtual format going forward. We met or exceeded attendees expectations with the quality of presenters and range of topics. A huge thank you to Connect for making this such a successful event during these strange times!’
The conference was hosted by Connect senior communications consultant Kim McAllister and technically managed by Paul McGinnity, frontend developer.
We have many more online conferences in the diary, to discuss your requirements please email email@example.com
“As much as I like going to conferences, it’s sometimes easier to be able to do virtual ones as there’s no travelling or hotel accommodation required. This was so well executed and managed despite it probably being an IT nightmare. Well done to all!”
