Connect’s Kim McAllister hosts Digital Scotland
Digital Scotland would ordinarily take place in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, but this year the Conference is fully virtual and hosted by Connect’s Kim McAllister.
With her mix of broadcast experience and communications skills, organiser FutureScot felt Kim was the ideal person to chair the event.
Digital Scotland is aimed at public sector leaders whose goal is to drive transformational change. Speakers include Kate Forbes MSP, Minister for Finance; Mark Logan, former COO of Skyscanner and author of the Scottish Tech Ecosystem Review; and Colin Cook, Digital Director at the Scottish Government.
The conference will inform the Scottish Government’s consultation, run jointly with Scotland’s local government organisation COSLA, to refresh the national Digital Strategy.
There will be discussions around emerging technologies, including data & AI, connectivity, service design, smart cities, cloud and cybersecurity.
Kim will host the event and chair the panel sessions, including a ministerial discussion around the future of Scotland’s technology ecosystem.
This will be the first year the conference has been online – luckily Kim has plenty of experience chairing events for Connect clients like BOHS. This time the online platform has been created in partnership with the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and aims to give a seamless delegate experience.
FutureScot managing director Hamish Miller said: “With 40 high-level speakers and over 1000 senior digital professionals from across government and the wider public sector joining leaders from Scotland’s technology ecosystem DigitalScotland 2020 promises to be the largest and most prestigious event of the year. Since March Scotland has turned to technology at an unprecedented rate, as systems have been spun or scaled up in record time to ensure public services could be delivered as smoothly and efficiently as possible during lockdown”.
Kim McAllister said she was thrilled to be hosting an event she has normally attended as a journalist.
“The speaker line-up is fantastic, and the subjects we’ll discuss are all topics I’m passionate about. The Scottish tech ecosystem is so exciting – there is real potential for our wee country to emerge from the pandemic with an inclusive and world-leading digital strategy. It’s events like this that can push us all forward,” she said.
DigitalScotland will celebrate our successes and look towards a refreshed Digital Strategy for 2021, you can see full details here.
